First Ever ALL RED
African
Grey!
How the Red
African Grey was bred.
By breeder Hennie
Diedericks
In the late ninety's a lot of African Greys were imported by
Jaco Bosman, at that time the biggest exporter and importer in
South Africa. All birds with red feathers were taken to
Vonk van Antwerpen who then selected the ones he thought
carried the red genes.
He then bred these birds to one another and came up with some
birds with red feathering.
Some of the birds had just a few red feathers, which he called
'Single Factor'
One thing to remember is the
challenges a mutation breeder of African Grey’s faces. The
birds take a long time to reach maturity before they can be
paired up for breeding. It will often take up to three or
more years before an African Grey can be
paired.
